In the umbrella of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), there are 59 Chambers of Commerce and Industry, 17 Women’s Chambers, 9 for Small Traders, 130 All Pakistan Trade Associations, and 7 Joint Chambers of Commerce representing Industry, Trade and Service sectors across Pakistan. Here, we are highlighting the efforts of one of the active chambers, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI).
Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established in 1984. It came under the Companies Act VIII of 1913 on 26 August 1984 as a Limited Company by Guarantee. It is a registered office in Islamabad and comes under the jurisdiction covering the Federal Capital Area.
It is affiliated with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). This body is an apex at the national level and is affiliated with the International Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The affairs of this Chamber are looked after by an elected Executive committee headed by the President and assisted by two Vice Presidents.
How ICCI operates?
This Chamber promotes trade, industrial & SME development through local and foreign economic empowerment of real estate, income tax & sales tax customs, banking and finance, energy efficiency, and much more.
Primarily, it is operated through an Executive Committee and a sub-committee that pools knowledge and experience for the business community. It is a common platform for interaction between the industry, trade, and services.
The elected members are foreign diplomats, senior government officials, federal, provincial, NGOs, and stakeholders. It recommends the government on trade and investment-related policies.
It operates and promotes entrepreneurship culture for youth and women and organizes various training seminars, conferences, and workshops in all fields and sectors.
Uncertain increases in taxes have stagnated the businesses in real estate. The government should rationalize all these taxes to relieve the real estate to improve the business environment and ultimately contribute to the country’s economic development.
All the members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry at a general Islamabad meeting gathered together to bring together the government in collaboration with the real estate industry to create a conducive ecosystem for the real estate sector and the construction industry.
ICCI and Real Estate Sector of Pakistan
ICCI has played a vital role in upgrading the Real Estate Sector of Pakistan. It has taken the initiative to revive the economy as this sector is the backbone of the economy. Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has called on the government to take the country out of the unfortunate turmoil.
This is only possible once the real estate sector connects with around 70 business industries vs. the Construction sector. It will boost growth and stimulate allied industries’ economic growth.
